Safety on Karmup
Mutual respect and common sense are at the heart of everyday peer help. Here is how we design for safety, and the essential precautions every user should take.
Karmup Is Not an Emergency Service
Karmup is a peer assistance platform. It is not an ambulance service, hospital, medical provider, police emergency dispatch, or certified rescue service. If you or someone around you is facing a medical or physical emergency, call national emergency numbers immediately (112 for All-India Police/Fire/Emergency, 108 / 102 for Ambulance).
Essential Safety Rules
1. Meet in public or guarded spaces
For package pickups, item deliveries, or face-to-face tutoring, choose daylight hours and well-lit public venues like apartment society security gates, local cafes, libraries, or market plazas.
2. Keep communication inside Karmup
Coordinate task details, scope, and instructions through Karmup's in-app chat. Keeping communication within the app ensures our moderation team can review conversation records if a dispute or safety report arises.
3. Avoid advance task payments
Requesters should settle task compensation directly with the helper after the agreed assistance is satisfactorily completed. Never wire advance funds to an unverified stranger.
4. Report suspicious behaviour immediately
Every profile, task posting, and chat screen includes built-in Report and Block actions. If anyone asks you to engage in unlawful activities, threatens you, or violates our guidelines, report them immediately.
5. Strictly 18+ adult users only
Karmup is strictly restricted to adults aged 18 and older. Minors under 18 years of age are strictly prohibited from creating accounts, requesting errands, or performing tasks.
What Karmup Verifies vs What It Does Not
Trust begins with honesty about platform capabilities:
- Verified: Phone number OTP verification, email address confirmation, and user profile photo display.
- NOT Verified: Karmup does not conduct Aadhaar biometric verification, PAN card validation, bank account vetting, or police background checks.
- Gender is NOT Verified (Self-Declared): Requesters can select a gender preference (Any, Women, Men) for household or personal comfort. Helpers self-declare gender privately. Karmup does not verify gender; the preference is based strictly on what users declare and is not a guarantee.
Users remain responsible for exercising reasonable personal caution, evaluating reviews, and confirming task parameters before proceeding.
Multi-Person Task Safety & Reliable Attendance
When participating in group tasks requiring multiple helpers (such as moving furniture or event coordination):
- Meet in public or guarded spaces: Always rendezvous at apartment security gates or visible landmarks before beginning.
- Coordinate via group chat: Keep all arrival updates and task notes inside the in-app group chat.
- Reliable Attendance: Dropping out without notice leaves the team short-handed. Unexcused no-shows result in warnings or account pause reviews under our Community Guidelines.
