Community Guidelines
Karmup is built to enable everyday human help. These community guidelines ensure that interactions remain respectful, safe, and positive for everyone.
1. Communicate Respectfully
Treat every community member with courtesy, patience, and dignity. Hate speech, abusive language, bullying, profanity, and harassment are zero-tolerance violations.
2. Be Honest & Transparent
Represent your skills, availability, and task requirements accurately. Never make deceptive claims, fabricate reviews, or misrepresent the nature of an errand.
3. Honour Agreed Commitments
If you accept a task or agree to help, follow through on your commitment. If an emergency arises, notify the other party promptly through in-app chat.
4. Respect Boundaries & Personal Property
Treat other people’s homes, packages, tools, and premises with extreme care. Companionship tasks are strictly platonic and social.
5. Safeguard Privacy & Confidentiality
Never share another user’s personal contact details, residential address, or photographs outside Karmup. Never request or share passwords or bank OTPs.
6. Fair & Direct Payments
Agree on task pricing before work begins. Pay your helper promptly upon task completion. Do not demand unagreed price increases once on site.
7. Strictly 18+ Adult Community
All Karmup users (requesters and helpers) must be at least 18 years of age. Minors are strictly prohibited from creating accounts, posting requests, or accepting tasks.
If You Accept a Task and Do Not Do It (No-Show Policy)
Accepting a task on Karmup is a real commitment. A neighbour is counting on your arrival and support. To ensure reliability for everyone, we enforce a clear no-show and strike policy:
- What Counts as a No-Show: A no-show means accepting a task and then failing to start within the agreed grace period of the scheduled time, or cancelling right before the start time, without a valid reason.
- Valid Exemptions: Requester-caused cancellations and genuine circumstances (such as an emergency, unreachable requester, or requester altering the task requirements) do not count as strikes.
- Strikes & Account Reviews: Your first no-show results in a warning. At two no-shows within 90 days, the helper cannot accept new tasks until Karmup reviews the account.
- 90-Day Expiry & Appeals: Strikes automatically expire after 90 days. Helpers can appeal any strike by providing context or supporting messages.
- Pre-Acceptance Consequence Notice: Before accepting any task, every helper is presented with a clear acknowledgement prompt: "What if I don't do this task after accepting it?" to confirm their commitment.
Cancellation Etiquette
Unplanned events happen in daily life. If an unexpected emergency prevents you from completing an agreed task, follow these communication standards:
- Message the other party promptly inside Karmup chat as soon as you realize you cannot make it.
- Never leave someone waiting unattended. Clear and timely communication preserves community trust.
- If rescheduling is mutually acceptable, both parties can coordinate an updated start time through chat.
Multi-Person Task Etiquette
Certain tasks (such as shifting heavy items, event setup, or community cleanups) require multiple helpers. When participating in multi-person tasks:
- Spot Commitment: When you accept one of the open spots, arrive on time because your fellow helpers and the requester are coordinating around the full group.
- Group Chat Coordination: Use the task group chat courteously to synchronize arrival times, roles, and equipment.
- Independent Tracking: Each helper is tracked independently. If one helper drops out, their individual spot reopens without penalizing other attendees.
- Per-Person Reward: Each helper receives their agreed individual per-person reward directly from the requester upon successful completion.
Enforcement and Account Actions
To maintain a safe community, Karmup enforces these guidelines through automated tools, in-app user reports, and human moderation. Violations may result in:
- Formal warnings and guidance
- Temporary feature restrictions (e.g. chat or posting restrictions)
- Content removal
- Permanent account suspension and termination
- Cooperation with law enforcement authorities in cases of unlawful conduct
