Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Karmup, task coordination, direct payments, safety, and our community standards.

General & Platform Basics

What is Karmup?

Karmup is a people-helping-people platform connecting individuals who need help with everyday tasks (errands, delivery, household help, technology, tutoring, companionship) with people nearby who are willing and able to help.

Does Karmup provide the services directly?

No. Karmup is a technology platform connecting independent users. Requesters and helpers communicate, agree on task terms, and transact directly.

Is Karmup available on mobile?

Yes. Karmup is designed as a lightweight, installable Progressive Web App (PWA) and web app accessible from any smartphone browser.

For Requesters (Need Help)

How do I post a request?

Simply state what you need help with, specify your location, select a relevant category, and provide your preferred completion window.

How much does it cost to ask for help?

Posting a request on Karmup is completely free for requesters. You agree on the task price directly with your chosen helper before work starts.

When do I pay the helper?

You pay the helper directly when the task has been completed to your satisfaction. We advise against paying in advance for unfamiliar tasks.

Multi-Person Tasks

Can I request multiple helpers for a single task?

Yes. Requesters can set how many people are needed; the task displays "X of N spots left". Each helper is tracked independently, and accepted participants get access to an in-app task group chat.

How does payment and pricing work for multi-person tasks?

Reward is displayed per person. Requesters can enter a total budget (which is divided by headcount and rounded up to the nearest rupee) or specify a per-person reward. Requesters settle directly with each attending helper upon completion.

What happens if fewer helpers accept before start time?

Requesters can set a minimum headcount to start. If too few helpers accept by the start time, the requester can choose to proceed with available helpers, reduce the headcount, or cancel.

What happens if a helper drops out of a multi-person task?

If an accepted helper drops out, their spot reopens immediately for other nearby helpers. Attending helpers are not affected.

Payments & Free Early Launch

Does Karmup hold task payments?

No. Karmup does not hold task payments or operate digital payment wallets. Requesters pay helpers directly via UPI, QR code, or cash.

Are there any fees or charges during early launch?

No. Karmup is completely free to use during early launch. Karmup charges zero fees to both requesters and helpers. There are no joining costs, membership charges, or deductions from completed tasks.

Will Karmup charge fees in the future?

Karmup may introduce fees in the future to maintain operations. If fees are introduced, Karmup will give users advance notice before any fee applies.

Does Karmup promise to recover direct user payments in disputes?

No. Because payments are made directly between users outside Karmup, we cannot promise the recovery of funds. We investigate disputes and may restrict, suspend, or terminate offending accounts.

For Helpers

How do I become a helper on Karmup?

Any verified user can switch to helper mode directly in the app. There are no prerequisite tasks or fees required to activate helper functionality.

Does Karmup promise fixed earnings or payout amounts?

No. Karmup makes zero earning projections or payout assurances. How much you earn depends entirely on your own availability, agreed pricing, and community demand.

What helper statistics are visible publicly vs privately?

Your public profile shows tasks completed, tasks cancelled, and your community rating. Total earnings is visible only to the helper in their private dashboard and is labelled "based on agreed task amounts" because payment is direct and Karmup cannot verify it.

How do helpers receive payments?

Helpers receive payments directly from requesters through their preferred payment mode: direct UPI, personal QR code, or cash in hand.

Attendance, No-Shows & Appeals

What happens if a helper does not show up after accepting a task?

A no-show means accepting a task and then not starting within a grace period of the agreed time, or cancelling very close to start time without a valid reason. The first no-show results in a warning; at two no-shows within 90 days the helper cannot accept new tasks until Karmup reviews the account. Strikes expire after 90 days.

What if an emergency happens or a strike is received unfairly?

Genuine emergencies, unreachable requesters, or requester-changed tasks do not count as no-shows. Helpers can appeal any strike directly with support, providing relevant context or chat proof.

What is the consequence notice shown before accepting a task?

Before accepting any task, a helper sees "What if I don't do this task after accepting it?" and must acknowledge it. Karmup logs the acknowledgement timestamp and policy version to promote mutual reliability.

Trust, Safety & Matching

Can I choose the gender of my helper?

Yes. Requesters can choose Any, Women, or Men for personal or domestic comfort. Helpers self-declare gender (Woman, Man, Other, Prefer not to say) privately, used solely for matching. Important caveat: Karmup does not verify gender; this preference is based on what users declare and is not a guarantee.

What does Karmup verify on user profiles?

Karmup verifies mobile phone numbers via SMS OTP, confirms email addresses, and requires a profile photo. We do not conduct Aadhaar, PAN, police, or criminal background checks.

Is Karmup an emergency or medical dispatch service?

No. Karmup is not an ambulance, hospital, doctor, police, or emergency service. For medical, life-threatening, or safety emergencies, immediately call official helpline numbers (112 / 108).

What activities are prohibited on Karmup?

Only activities permitted by Karmup and applicable law are allowed. Prohibited activities include fraud, drugs, weapons, trafficking, harassment, illegal financial schemes, academic cheating, and unauthorized professional services.
